Manifesto
The revolution will not be commercialized.
Purpose
Queenie is a female-run record label started by Chin-a
Panaccione and Sivan Schlecter. Our goal is to seize the means of
control for women by releasing quality recordings by female
artists past and present, and by working with women on all levels
of our operation.
Mission
Competition is fierce in the music industry but in our first year
of operation, Queenie and its acts have already received
phemonenal support -- from the media, from radio, and from the
feminist, indie rock and gay/lesbian communities. Although there
are only a handful of female-run record labels in the country,
Queenie's unique vision separates it from all others. Queenie
signs only female artists and woman-fronted bands that have
something special to offer to music fans. Rock and roll, until
recently, has been the domain of men. Male artists have been able
to tell their stories and present their point of view through the
medium of rock and contemporary music over the past 40 years.
Queenie signs artists who present the authentic female
experience, which has been largely neglected in rock until very
recently. Both female and male music fans want to hear more about
the authentic female viewpoint. The music we are releasing on
Queenie will become a vital and enduring part of both the 90s
music scene and rock history.
Women should control their own images. Women should support other women.
Queenie is access and empowerment.
