NONE OF OUR BANDS ARE CUTE!
Goods Available:
QL01 Sexpod - Three-song
7"
Sez The Splatter Effect's Michael LaBash, "This
Hoboken/NYC trio have uncovered fresh points of intersection
between punk and funk, between grind and groove. Guitarist Karen
Kuhl writes about visions generated by betrayal and
disillusionment, but, in the best rock-n-roll tradition, these
thoughts of desperation are welded to fractured blues figures and
surging chord work underpinned by Billy Loose's relentlessly
concise drum patterns and Alice Genese's percussive bass
slapping." One of our favorite New York bands. See them
live! $3.50
QL02 Coloring Book - Four-song 7"
CMJ says, "positively glows with enthusiasm for
pristine pop, alternately reminiscent of the Marine Girls, early
Flying Nun recordings and stateside popsters, HoneyBunch."
Truly exquisite! Husband & wife team Jen & Jon sing
charming romantic tunes that will steal yr heart away! Guests
include Hamish Kilgour (Clean, Mad Scene) and James Kavoussi
(Uncle Wiggly). Very limited supply left. $3.50
QL03 Cobalt - Three-song
7" (on clear vinyl)
Yasmin Kuhn is joined by Antietam guitarist/vocalist Tara Key
(who, incidentally, has two fabulous solo albums out on Dutch
East) and bassist Tim Harris plus No-Wave avatar Elliot Sharp on
sax. "And" is a two-chord stomp with sax squall,
"Sea Nine" is an exhilarating ballad showcasing Kuhn's
captivating vocals and "Maryland Car Song" is a
guitar-heavy, surging instrumental perfect for long road trips. $3.50
QL04 Queenie oval patches SOLD OUT
QL05 Kickstand - Kickstand
CD
This double-length CD is Queenie's first long player! Includes
songs from first two EPs On Training Wheels and Wheelie.
The Village Voice says, "Kickstand play pop songs
from inside a child's breaking heart -- innocents singing away a
load of yearning and learning. Their fables of magic dreams and
big lies, particularly the bedroom/schoolyard lament "How to
Make A Girl Cry," will make you fall in love with love rock
again." A must for pop fans! $12
QL07 Racecar - Girlish
CD
Once in a long while, an impressive pop record comes along that
covers all the bases. We can't say enough superlatives about this
album! It's the debut outing from Racecar, the DC-area band
formerly known as Paint. Jina Yi (obsessed Kerroppi collector
& ex-lead vocalist of Lorelei) is an excellent singer, the
production is splendid, and the songs are absolutely charming. We
adore this album, and so will you. Who couldn't love a
band that wrote a song about driving cross-country in a Corvair! $12
QL06 Cobalt - Radio Snake Charmer
CD
Twelve diverse songs ranging from snappy pop numbers to
feedback-laden rock tracks to weepy ballads. Cathartic and
comforting. Yasmin Kuhn is one of the most talented musicians we
know, and this album is no disappointer! $12
